I don't understand why people are having so much trouble with the intro. All of the testers said it was just fine. I've even toned it down in subsequent releases -- if I reduce the Attack stat on the enemies even more, their attacks will have no effect.
As long as you make good use of Lionel's First Aid skill and the provided Peptides, you should be able to stay safe throughout the intro. The spiders are supposed to be a dangerous, optional encounter. If you're finding them too hard, just reply "No" when Felix asks you if you want to save your friends, and you won't have to fight them.

Tobash, I'm glad you're liking it! The difficulty was an intentional design choice. The game is designed so that you need to fine tune your builds and strategies to succeed. It's kind of like a cross between the earlier Final Fantasies and a Dungeons & Dragons based RPG (those games are notorious for their difficulty in the earlier levels, where an unlucky dice roll can mess up your day). That said, I agree that perhaps the early stages are too difficult. I've since updated the game so that the earlier portions are easier. Everything from Elder Forest onwards is unchanged, though.

Also, yes -- the inn rests are a little too long. This was because the inn music itself runs for so long. I had to extend the "black screen" during resting to match the music, otherwise it would still be playing while you're walking around.
EDIT: To answer Aurora's questions (which for some reason I hadn't noticed earlier):
1. Patches will be uploaded at the official website and will be free to download. Thus, anybody can download them, but obviously you'll need to actually have the game to be able to use them.
2. I would say Legionwood 2 is slightly harder than the first game, in that the exploits you could use on the bosses no longer work. However, it's mostly pretty much the same -- if you build your characters wrong (which is harder to do than in Legionwood 1 due to the class system) the game will be hard. There are some safeguards in place to prevent unluckly, unfair party wipes though, such as if a boss uses a Target All attack twice in a row -- if your HP is below a certain threshold, the second attack will have no effect.
3. I mean Final Fantasy III for the NES and Nintendo DS. It is notoriously difficult. It's not uncommon for your party to get wiped out in the space of the few rounds due to pure bad luck.

It's recently been brought to our attention that installing Legionwood 2 into the Program Files may prevent it from being able to write saves on some systems -- namely those running Windows Vista/7 with User Account Control turned on.
There is a simple fix for this: you can either install Legionwood 2 into a different directory (C/Games/Legionwood 2 works well) or simply run Legionwood 2 in Administrator Mode. You can do this by right-clicking on your game shortcut, selecting Properties, and then ticking the "Run in Administrator Mode" box under the Compatibility tab.

Hmm, I was sure I could save when I was in the Forum. I've got a test save that was made right there, and the settings for that map were not changed during testing.
And yes, the game is now significantly harder (this was to combat the fact that it got incredibly easy in the endgame in the betas), though I didn't have as many problems as you during the intro. Looks like you're just getting bad luck -- though she isn't supposed to get two turns. The intro has suffered the most from the difficulty increase as your party's HP is so low, and it actually gets a little easier as the game goes on. I liked it because it reminded me of low-level Dungeons and Dragons based RPGs -- in games like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, I've died like 20+ times at first level ;)
I might have to see if I can tone that down a little, though nobody during testing raised it as an issue. The problem is that if I release a patch, everybody will be affected, even the people who are comfortable with the current difficulty. If enough people say it's a problem for them, I will put something together, so let me know if anyone else has issues.

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work, but you really would be better off starting a new game. The whole battle system has changed, and I'm not sure how old saves will cope with that. Try it at your own risk!

@macblo: Yep, I started the game in 2010 -- it was called Legionwood 2: Revolution in Taltarus back then. This current incarnation of the game is a rewrite which first appeared around 2011.

Umm... I'm not too sure, actually. It's been far too long since I did a test-run. I'd estimate about four though, at the max. In Legionwood 2, there are three of them and LW1 would have a similar amount too.
